About our Mentor

Professor C.M. Markan, a Physicist by degree and Cognitive Scientist by heart. Sir has been actively pursuing the field of cognitive science for more than ten years.  His academic journey can be traced in this link which describes his work in the field of physics and cognitive science:. Tools that help us peep into the brain: Part I

We are excited to share the variety of tools and devices we have got in our lab, it's a little showoff but we anyway like it! So first we get to see all the EEGs we have got in the lab. Let's start with the supreme of all - The 64-Channel ActiChamp Wet EEG worn by our favourite lab mate.  Next, we have OpenBCI Ultracortex "Mark IV". We still don't understand the reason why it's written like that, but for more info on that, check out their website (https://openbci.com). It's a pretty cool device when it comes to naming the components of this EEG, it's got channels named CytonDaisy, isn't it cool? We enjoyed working with the device on a few projects studying attention components in the brain. The next one and the last one on the list is Dreem 2 coming from https://dreem.com. And yes, that relates to 'Dream' because this one is a dry polysomnography device, at least this is what the website says. We tried to do some sleep research with it but

CSRG in Consciousness Conferences

Our group has worked on variety of topics since 2019 when the Cognitive Science lab was established. We started with presentation at National Systems Conference (NSC) organized by Systems society of India (https://www.sysi.org/nsc.html) in 2019. Two MSc (Physics) students presented their work in the field of Cognitive Science at IIT Roorkee during NSC 2019. What is this Virtual Reality thing? Hi everyone, how is everyone doing? Currently, we are doing experiments related to Virtual Reality, therefore we wanted to let you all know about this, we suppose many of you must have seen it in movies or in real life, in movie theatres or if you are living under a stone, we are here to help you.  So, first of all, what is virtual reality? Virtual reality is the use of computer technology to create simulated environments. so, it is a tech, which lets you have an experience that your body can't feel but your brain can and that can brain will let your whole body perceive the virtual environment.  Have you ever thought about why do you see a 3d image instead of two different images while wearing the device?  This is because when two different images appear in front of your eyes, the brain perceives them as one coherent image which generates a 3d view and you feel like, it's happening for real. STEM Workshop: Introducing Cognitive Science.

Introducing Cognitive Science to youth of the country! The STEM workshop is annually held at Dayalbagh Educational Institute for school students in the region. This is to introduce to them the present trends in science and research. We took it to ourselves to enlighten the students about various aspects of Cognitive science as well as its applications in real world based on our research tools.  This is our team headed by Prof. C.M. Markan pictured in the Cognitive Science Lab, DEI, Agra after the workshop. Watch our supervisor, Prof. Markan talking to young students. Cognitive Science enthusiasts at DEI, Agra welcome you to their lab to help you discover the hidden potential of the piece of meat on your head.   Every day, we bring new problems to our table that help us demystify the science of how our brain does it all! In pursuit of getting answers to our questions about the brain's potential, we discovered the student-friendly neuroscience product kit offered by  Backyard Brains , USA.  In this  'neuroscience for everyone' kit , we find interesting tools made out of simple Arduino-based designs. The first one that we discuss here today is the  Human-human interface  (HHI). You must have heard about Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), here is the new thing, HHI which lets two humans be interfaced through simple wire connectors.  HHI is a small, portable device that works on simple principles of electricity. The muscular power produced by the 'controller' person on clinching their fist with these electrodes put on their hand, is sto
